I recently returned from the prairie grasslands of northeastern New Mexico.  I joined a fine group of hunters for this season’s pronghorn antelope opener.

For three days we hunted under clear blue skies.  The evenings were cool and the days grew warm.  We found plenty of antelope, and by mid-morning on the last day the last shot was fired.  All eight hunters took nice antelope bucks.

Our prairie camp was comfortable, the food was good and plentiful, and the guides worked hard and knew their business.  But most of all, the group – hunters, guides, and cook – were fantastic company.  We had a blast and I’m going back in 2021.  Its been years since I guided antelope hunts.  I’ve missed the big sky, immense grasslands, and the wild prairie’s wildlife – antelope, coyotes, badgers, prairie dogs, and hawks.  We saw lots of game.

With the coronavirus shutting down international travel at this time, my upcoming trips will be closer to home: South Dakota for pheasants, Oregon for huns and chukars,  Texas for whitetails, and Georgia for bobwhite quail.
