Today Richard and I hunted perdiz. Martin was our guide and we shot over his young setters. The morning was cool, sky clear. Perfect. We hunted for 1.5 hours – 27 flushes and 20 perdiz bagged. As good as it gets. Loved it.
In July, friends and I traveled to Uruguay’s Paysandu region to the hunt the area’s renowned mixed-bag of ducks, doves, and perdiz. After five days of hunting, I can report a superb trip. The ducks were hunted over decoys on small ponds. No waders required! The dove shooting was good and challenging. The birds were often high and flying with a strong tail wind. The perdiz hunting in the region is arguably the best in South America. Morning and afternoon perdiz hunts consisted of 25-60 flushes in two to three hours of hunting. Simply amazing.
The lodge was rustic, authentic, and very comfortable. The staff was remarkable and the food exceptional. Gourmet.
Montevideo is a mid-size city with excellent hotels and restaurants. Airport arrival and departure was quick and painless. We brought our own guns. The permitting process through customs was a simple affair, the easiest I’ve experienced anywhere in the world. I highly recommend this trip.
Good Hunting, Gordie
