Namibia – Plains Game Hunt

Friends,
Namibia’s landscape is the most spectacular I have seen in Africa. Along with its’ breathtaking scenery and great game populations, it is the most unpopulated and cleanest African nation I have visited – not another country comes close!

I recently made my first trip to Namibia. My travel purpose was to see Mare and Irma van der Merwe’s African Twilight Safaris (ATS) operation. Mare’s ancestors came to the Dark Continent in 1854 and settled in South Africa. At the end of World War I, Mare’s grandfather trekked into Namibia and acquired properties, including the 110,000 acre wildlife paradise that ATS owns and operates today. The ranch is located 150 miles southwest of Windhoek – the nation’s capital.

The van der Merwe ranch is entirely free-range and is home to large populations of Hartmann’s zebra, greater kudu, gemsbok, springbok, klipspringer and more. The ranch and region is renowned for big leopards – an ATS client holds the #4 SCI record book leopard. ATS hunting guests have access to an additional 100,000 plus acres adjoining the van de Merwe property. ATS offers visiting hunters 25 species of plains game and leopard.

Hunters will find trophy game in the vast grasslands, various mountain ranges, and along the edge of desert dunes. This country is truly breathtaking, beautiful, and wild Africa.

ATS hosts its’ hunters in a very comfortable and tastefully furnished “chalet-style” safari camp. During my stay, Irma and her staff served delicious meals and provided superb camp services. A wonderful feature; ATS guests – single or groups – enjoy camp exclusivity for the duration of their stay.

My scouting trip was short but Mare showed me great hunting country and tremendous amounts of game. I even got a chance to do a little hunting for myself – see attached PDF and photos of some nice animals.

In my opinion, I believe that Mare and the ATS team offer some of the best valued hunting in Africa today. I regret I did not venture to Namibia sooner but one thing I know for sure – I am going back!

For more information, call me – I would like to tell you about my trip.

Good Hunting,
Gordie
